PaaS provides an environment in which software developers can easily build, manage, deploy, and scale the applications they build. Examples of early PaaS offerings include Salesforce.com's Force.com and Google's AppEngine. A PaaS need not operate using IaaS (neither Force.com nor AppEngine do so), although many newer services run on the Amazon IaaS service (known as EC2), and the Standing Cloud PaaS can run on virtually any public IaaS.

Standing Cloud and Flexiant partner to simplify European cloud application deployment

June 29, 2011: Standing Cloud, Inc. a leader in the emerging Platform as a Service (PaaS) marketplace, and Flexiant, a UK-based cloud infrastructure software and services provider - and Europe’s original public cloud provider - have announced a partnership that brings a vastly simplified method of deploying and managing cloud-hosted applications to European cloud users.

Increasingly, substantial cloud demand is coming from “informal buyers.” Defined by Forrester Research (Feb 2011) as “businesses or enterprise users outside the core IT operations and transaction teams,” informal buyers, including application developers, innovative business users, and service providers, will drive the future of cloud adoption.
