CloudPlumbing: In this podcast, host Ryan Parsley tries Standing Cloud's test-drive function and says, "I had a Drupal instance up in three minutes." Dave Jilk adds, "It's interesting how many problems that solves with infrastructure as a service. The most problematic time is when you spin up a new server. ... By buffering essentially the servers we deploy, we make them much more likely to succeed and it's a lot faster."

Boulder County Business Report: "Standing Cloud is developing what it describes as the only "platform-as-a-service" that allows cloud users to work with or develop applications on a variety of cloud services using several different programming languages."

Cloudshoring IT: "This is an interesting event in the emerging European Cloud computing landscape and I believe it offers interesting possibilities for European ISVs, SMEs and MSPs. ... ISVs including web2.0 and eBusiness startups across Europe are looking for ways to enable their on-premise software on a SaaS model or develop a new stack on a SaaS model to extend their market reach and business. CloudSigma IaaS Stack and Standing Cloud’s PaaS stack offers a potent combination to realize such initiatives."

TMCnet: "Offering a vastly simplified method of deploying and managing cloud-hosted applications to cloud users around the globe, Standing Cloud has partnered with CloudSigma, a provider of cloud servers and infrastructure. ... For 'informal buyers' who have struggled to make the cloud accessible and easy, Standing Cloud powered by CloudSigma removes the mystery of the cloud."

Network Computing: "Responding to the demand for business cloud services and Web enablement of applications, Nexaweb has launched a new platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering that is designed to help businesses move legacy applications into the cloud while still providing the familiarity of client/server-type solutions... David J. Jilk, CEO at Standing Cloud, a Nexaweb partner, says, 'Standing Cloud is excited to be providing the cloud and platform layer for Nexaweb's groundbreaking application modernization capabilities.'"

TalkinCloud: "Standing Cloud powered by OpSource is likely a response to Forrester Research’s prediction that “informal buyers,” — application developers and service providers — will drive cloud development. These informal buyers are looking for integrated, full stack solutions, and that’s exactly what OpSource and Standing Cloud are delivering with Standing Cloud powered by OpSource."

The 451 Group: "Standing Cloud's support for multiple languages, frameworks and, particularly, many IaaS options make it an attractive option to PaaS users of all sizes."

Ben Kepes blog: "At the moment with IaaS being quite immature in terms of the amount of heavy lifting it does for its users, a third party that offers a managed platform is an attractive proposition."

SD Times: "Software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service are not distinct pieces, but rather a continuum that can be viewed as the cloud application layer, according to Dave Jilk, CEO of PaaS provider Standing Cloud."

Daily Camera: "What is 'the cloud?' 'The cloud' refers to the idea that the Internet is not just a communication medium; it also is a way that computing and storage can be performed remotely rather than locally. It's powerful because it means your work is not tied to a particular computing device, and companies are not tied to a particular physical data center."

Boulder County Business Report: "Despite the buzz, the emergence of cloud computing does not feel like a fad. 'This does not feel like a trend that is going to go away. It adds too much value,' Jilk said."

TechRockies: "For end users and developers, Standing Cloud is a solution that makes it easier to use infrastructure-as-a-service providers.'"

Datamation: "Here, we have highlighted 15 promising cloud computing vendors that are carving out a niche for themselves in this emerging arena... FeldThoughts: "Amazon is not infallible, and the cloud is not magic," writes CEO Dave Jilk in this guest post, adding that "cloud portability is one of the things Standing Cloud enables for the applications it manages. If you build/deploy/manage an application using our system, it will be able to run on many different cloud providers, and you can move it easily and quickly."

Ostatic: "Standing Cloud increases developer productivity, because for many developers, doing system administration is unpleasant, time-consuming, and error prone. We automate system administration and turn devops into something developers can do with a few clicks, instead of using Google to figure out Linux command options and then hoping for the best."

Forrester blog (James Staten): "Both are welcome improvements to the IaaS cloud computing market and achieve this stated goal of making IaaS more widely appealing."

Boulder County Business Report: "Fourteen companies in Boulder and Broomfield counties received $72.2 million in venture capital during the fourth quarter of 2010... Standing Cloud Inc. in Boulder got $3 million."

Network World: "One of our taglines is 'Hosting, Reimagined.' We thought about the idea of shared hosting and how it works and what we could add value to the people who have traditionally used shared hosting by using the cloud as our base technology. We found there's a lot of ways we could do that and what's exciting about it is that it serves the same role that hosting has, but it's a new way to do it that provides benefits to the users."

TMCnet: "The demand for Standing Cloud appears to be substantial given the fact that deploying apps on most cloud providers continues to be extremely complicated. ... [T]he Standing Cloud Partner Program ... provides free hosting for one stance of a single application for one year. The program also provides volume pricing and a listing of services in the Standing Cloud Application Network."

AOL DailyFinance: "The company earlier this week announced a new $3 million Series B funding round led by Avalon Ventures, which joined with earlier investors Foundry Group to bring the company's total VC haul to $5 million. Standing Cloud's model is likely a harbinger of the direction in which cloud computing will evolve over the next few years, with a focus on making this relatively new computing development more accessible, more affordable and easier to manage."

Vator.tv: "Cloud application management platform Standing Cloud announced Wednesday that it has closed a $3 million Series B round of funding led by Avalon Ventures with participation from previous backer Foundry Group."

Daily Camera (Boulder): "The 13-employee Standing Cloud plans to use the money to further development and marketing efforts of its application management technology and its soon-to-be-launched Standing Cloud Application Network."

Denver Business Journal: "Standing Cloud will use the money to develop and market its technology, which helps software makers host and manage "cloud"-based software applications."

Boulder-based venture firm Foundry Group also invested in the latest financing round."

The Cloud Computing Show: "One of the things we're trying to do is make all this stuff consistent. We're not trying to produce standards, but we are trying to make it so that things can move around for the users and that's really what the users want — to be able to not be stuck and to have some control over what's going on if they need it."

Portfolio.com:"Veteran technologist Dave Jilk has created Standing Cloud, with an eye toward becoming the ConEd of small business cloud computing. ... 'We make it easy to scale the number of users of an application, and to deploy the add-ons that have been created for many applications such as WordPress. And if one cloud of servers goes down, we can move all your applications to another cloud within one minute.'"

IT World: "Explains Standing Cloud CEO David J. Jilk, 'Developing applications in the cloud is a little like visiting Canada from America. Most everything is the same, but there are small differences that you notice and need to accommodate.'"

IT World: "Says Standing Cloud CEO David J. Jilk, 'Ultimately, developing in the cloud may require "devops," either including sysadmins in the development process to design the infrastructure, or for developers to learn these system deployment and management skills.'"

Sramana Mitra on Strategy: "Initially, the company intended to offer both development and deployment tools in an integrated platform, but within a few months it became clear that the deployment and management components were both a bigger opportunity and easier to address."

This Week in Cloud Computing: An interview with CEO Dave Jilk. "What we're trying to make possible is for end users to do a lot of this stuff quickly and simply without having to worry about the back-end."

ShortForm Blog: "For some reason, we held out on upgrading the hosting. Actually, we know the reason. It's because dry wit and big numbers are skills that don't translate to typing dry, obscure commands in an SSH terminal ...we got the site up thanks to Standing Cloud's killer service. Who knew we could do it?"

TechCrunch: "Generally speaking, installing an open-sourced application to your server involves some fairly advanced configuration [...] Standing Cloud offers a solution to this problem."

w3w3: A podcast with CEO David J. Jilk. "We’re creating a stable platform for applications even though the technology is changing quickly. So for Standing Cloud the idea is you wouldn't need to continue using that server and next time it gets out of date, you don't need to buy one!"
