Standing Cloud has just announced its ability to handle all backup and restore for users in the UK and Euro on that side of the pond. We previously announced support for both Tagadab and the Amazon EU data center, and now Standing Cloud has added a process flow to its service such that, by default, data stored in the EU is not transmitted to systems in the United States. Many observers believe that the U.S. PATRIOT Act is in conflict with the requirements of both the EU Data Protection Directive and the UK's Data Protection Act. This concern can be exacerbated in cloud computing, where users cannot always control the location of the data.
In the news release, CEO Dave Jilk says, “We are aware of the data privacy concerns of EU users related to the PATRIOT Act and are pleased to now offer a way to keep data on their side of the pond.”
