Fight SOPA with Standing Cloud

17 Jan

On the eve of a widespread Internet “Blackout” initiated by administrators of Reddit and backed by the likes of Wikipedia, Wordpress, Google, Mozilla, Boing Boing, TwitPic, and many other online organizations around the world, the Internet community has made it clear that the freedom of speech, innovation of design, and opportunity of shared information is being threatened and that a blackout to protest the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) is in order. If passed, this legislation would seriously damage the free and open Internet. Those who would be impacted by these bills are voicing their opinions as loud as they know how.

In the midst of all of this, supporters of the two bills have been scrambling to clarify their stance on the situation. In late December, a list of such supporters was made public, many of whom you may be surprised to know do in fact support SOPA and/or PIPA.

Among many of the surprising supporters “was” the popular domain registrar and hosting provider GoDaddy. Since that initial publication, GoDaddy has changed their stance on the situation. Nevertheless, much of the Internet community remains skeptical about their true feelings on the matter. Website developers and content managers are leaving GoDaddy like mice on a sinking ship, where do they turn for a hosting provider that believes in the Internet like they believe in the Internet?

Recently Rackspace spoke out in opposition of SOPA, stating that the bill will do more harm than good. Likewise, Softlayer (another hosting provider supported by Standing Cloud) has posted their stance against the bills both in a generic sense, and in a technical manner.

Standing Cloud provides a cloud application management system unmatched by any other service out there, and you get to choose where you want your site to exist.
